EU Peacebuilding

The EU is the world’s largest aid donor and a strategic and influential security actor in global affairs. EU foreign and security policies seek to “preserve peace and strengthen international security, promote international cooperation, develop and consolidate: democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms” (europa.eu).

Ongoing EU peace keeping missions includes missions in South Sudan, Moldova and Ukraine, Palestine, the Sahel region, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Somalia, Georgia, Afghanistan, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Completed missions and involvement include Indonesia, Libya, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, Macedonia and Sri Lanka.

Beginning with Ireland: the other side, A Week on Northern Ireland in March 2016, CES is creating a series of programs designed to highlight the EU’s role in global peace keeping.
