Getting to Know the European Union
Getting to Know the European Union (GKEU) is a program funded by the European Union under objective four of the Partnership Instrument. GTKE promotes greater knowledge and understanding, within local and regional communities in the United States, of the European Union, its international role, its policies, its culture, and the value and the significance of the EU-US transatlantic partnership.
The Center received the current GKEU grant in late 2015 and the grant programming will run from Spring 2016 to Spring 2018. The title of the grant is Getting to Know the European Union: Peace + Sustainability – Our Shared Future and builds off of the first GKEU grant that the Center received in 2013.
Grant programming will revolve around three themes: Peace Building, Sustainability and Art & Policy. The goal of the programming is to inform the Central Florida community about the workings of the EU through two policy areas: Peace Building and Sustainability. Through Art & Policy, we will use arts and the humanities to demonstrate the value of Peace Building and Sustainability policies. We believe that the humanities can make the social sciences and hard sciences more relatable for audiences outside these field. We aim to use visual representation in the form of film, painting, and photography to demonstrate that EU Peace Building and Sustainability efforts have value for our shared future on this planet.
