The Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of Florida is an interdisciplinary area studies center focused on the study of Europe, and facilitating the training of scholars and experts in European studies in the United States. CES is a hub for social science and humanities research and university collaboration.
CES outreach provides educational enrichment for university audiences, reaches out to the K-12 community and the broader public, and serves as an information source for state agencies.
CES provides meaningful and intelligent commentary on the social, political, cultural and economic issues that Europe faces in today’s world. It does so through two foci, the core of Europe and the view from its periphery. CES offers language study in Polish, Turkish, Greek, Hungarian, and Czech and area studies courses. CES trains students for careers in government, social science and humanities fields. CES also sponsors a faculty working group on Migration.
CES provides experiential learning opportunities through abroad programs and internships. Competitive travel funding for undergraduate summer language study abroad and graduate language study are available. CES offers two undergraduate European studies minors, two certificates and a graduate certificate in Modern European Studies, and provides advising for the Europe track of the International Studies Major
