A Getting to Know Europe (GTKE) Event Series

March 21-29

Renowned Bosnian Actress Zana Marjanović, star of Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut film In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) and Snow (2008), and filmmaker Emir Kapetanović will spend 10 days in Gainesville on a GTKE artist visit.
  • During their visit, Zana, a parliamentarian in the Bosnian House of Representatives, will be giving a talk on Women & Politics in Anderson Hall 216 on Wednesday, March 22nd at 3pm.
  • Emir will host a Q&A session following the screening of his newest film Children of Peace in the Nygren Scholars Studio in room 212 of Library West on Thursday, March 23rd at 5.15pm.
Scheduled Talks
  • Tuesday, March 21st at 11.30am: UF Ph.D. candidate in political science Dragana Svraka will give a talk on her recent research trip to Southeast Europe, “Studying Ethnic Politics in SEE: Notes from the Field,” in Turlington 3312 – CES Conference Room. Lunch will be provided.
  • Wednesday, March 22nd at 3pm: Zana Marjanović, Bosnian Actress and Parliamentarian, will give a talk on Women & Politics in Anderson Hall 216
  • Thursday, March 23rd at 1pm: Aida Hozic, Associate Professor of Political Science at UF, will give a talk entited “Post-Conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Difficult Peace?” in Turlington 3312 – CES Conference Room.
  • Thursday, March 23rd at 5.15pm: Emir Kapetanović will host a Q&A session following the screening of his newest film Children of Peace in the Nygren Scholars Studio in room 212 of Library West.
  • Monday, March 27th at 11.30am: Amila Buturović, Associate Professor of Humanities at York University, will give a talk entitled “Secular Sacrality of Death: Remembering War Victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina” in Turlington 3312 – CES Conference Room. Lunch will be provided.
  • Monday, March 27th at 5pm: Emily Greble, Associate Professor of History at Vanderbilt University, will give a talk entitled “Contradictions of Race, Religion and Politics in a Multicultural City of War: Sarajevo in WWII” in the Judaica Suite on the second floor of Smathers Library.

  • Tuesday, March 28th at 12pm, Amila Buturović and Emily Greble will participate in a roundtable moderated by Nina Caputo, Associate Professor of History at UF, entitled “Studying Islam from the Margins of Europe” in Keene-Flint 005 – History Conference Room.
  • Wednesday, March 29th at 6pm, CES will host a panel on War & Medicine with medical practitioners who have worked in conflict and post-conflict spaces. The panel will be in the Marston Science Library Visualization Room L136.
